How To Clean Your Tile Grout And Make It Look New Again!

Do you need to clean your tile grout? Is it hard to tell what the original grout colour was? Was it white or brown?

Grout is the filling between the tiles. Brownish, discoloured grout will make your Adelaide kitchen or bathroom look dirtier than it is. Regular mopping will only clean the tiles.

Fortunately, other simple methods exist to clean the grout and make it look new again.

Baking Soda And Vinegar

These simple household products will easily clean your Adelaide tile grout. Mix three parts baking soda with one part water into a thick paste.

Spread this paste onto the grout lines and leave it for about thirty minutes. You can use white vinegar instead of water. Be aware, though, that vinegar can harm some natural stone tiles, such as marble or limestone.

Scrub the grout lines, especially the corners, with a toothbrush. To rinse the tiles, mop the floor with plain water. Make sure to change the water regularly. It will prevent the spreading of vinegar and baking soda residue on the tiles.

Oxygenated Bleach

This cleaning method is for white grout only. The oxygenated bleach may damage coloured grout.

However, it should be gentle on all types of tiles. Oxygen bleach is a bleach compound. It comes in the form of a powder.

Stir two tablespoons of oxygenated bleach into 2 cups of warm water. After it dissolves, apply the mix to the grout.

You can use a spray bottle to apply it or pour it onto the grout lines. Some tiles and grouts might be discoloured by oxygen bleach.

First, test the mix on a hidden corner to avoid unexpected damage to your Adelaide walls and floors.

Make sure the grout lines are fully covered with this mix. Let the oxygen bleach solution stay on the grout for several minutes for optimum results.

Afterwards, scrub the grout thoroughly with a toothbrush. Just pour some clean, cold water on the tiles to rinse them.

Steam Cleaner

To avoid using chemicals in your Adelaide home, clean the grout with a steam cleaner. It will get your Adelaide tiles and grout sparkling and sanitise them.

All you have to do is move the cleaning brush back and forth over the grout. Be very careful, as the floor will get slippery from all the steam. After cleaning, use a towel or mop to dry any excess moisture.

If your grout is sealed, avoid using steam cleaners. They will remove all the grout sealant along with the dirt and grime.

How to Choose Kitchen Tiles That Still Look Good Five Years Later
Kitchen renovations tend to age in two ways. Some still feel fresh and intentional years after installation. Do Large Format Tiles Really Make a Room Feel Bigger?
Renovation conversations often discuss large-format tiles, especially in bathrooms, kitchens, and open-plan living areas. The idea behind them is simple: fewer grout lines create a cleaner surface, and cleaner surfaces feel more spacious. But the reality is a bit more nuanced than that. A tile size alone doesn’t magically expand a room. However, the way […]

How to Choose Tiles in Adelaide Without Following Trends Blindly

Rethinking Tiles in Adelaide Homes: From Functional to Statement-Worthy
There was a time when tiles stayed in the background. They did their job—practical, durable, easy to clean—and that was enough. Kitchens, bathrooms, laundries. Functional spaces, finished quickly. But that approach doesn’t quite reflect how homes are being designed now. Spend a little time looking through how tiles are shaping modern Adelaide homes and it […]
