Tips for Keeping Your Tiled Kitchen Backsplash Clean

Kitchen Tiles Adelaide | Tips for Keeping Your Tiled Kitchen Splashback Clean

Backsplashes add extra depth to your kitchen and complement its design. However, they could be pretty high-maintenance. They easily get stained; if you’re not careful, they’ll ruin your kitchen. Dirty kitchen backsplash tiles in your Adelaide home will make your kitchen tiles look dirty and irritate you while cooking.

The good news is that you don’t need to do anything drastic to maintain your backsplash. With a few changes, your backsplash will keep its shine for a long time. Try out these simple maintenance and preventive tips, and watch your wall tiles shine like never before:

Avoid certain tiles

If you’re dreading cleaning your kitchen splashback, you can avoid it. Kitchen tiles in Adelaide are either porous or non-porous. Porous tiles absorb water, grease, and stains. They usually require more maintenance because of how they retain colour.

Examples of porous tiles are natural stone tiles such as marble, granite, limestone, etc. Meanwhile, non-porous tiles include ceramic, porcelain, etc.

You could go for ceramic or porcelain if you don’t want to clean natural stone tiles. Or, if you wouldn’t mind mixing it up a bit, you can make your backsplash ceramic. At the same time, the floor tiles in your Adelaide kitchen are your preferred option.

Daily wipe down

If you cook often, you must clean your backsplash as often as possible. Sometimes, multiple times a day. Your backsplash gets dirty quickly, and cleaning it while the stain is fresh is better.

After cooking or while cooking, take a damp rag or sponge and wipe it down. This prevents the buildup of grease. And it also reduces the clean-up you’ll have to do after cooking.

Intense cleaning

Even if you clean your backsplash daily, it’ll still need frequent scrubs. If you want your backsplash to maintain its shine, you’ll have to put in the extra effort.

Simply rubbing your backsplash with a damp napkin won’t be enough. You’ll have to be ready to use elbow grease, brushes, and special cleaners.

Here are some ways you can clean the backsplash of your tiles:

  • Ceramic or porcelain tiles: Ceramic and porcelain tiles can take a lot to clean with dishwashing soap. But add a little baking soda if you want to make it stronger.

If you have some vinegar, mix it with water in a spray bottle. Spritz over your backsplash, leave for 5 minutes, and wipe down. Do this three times a week, and you should notice some difference.

  • Natural stone tiles: Stone tiles are susceptible, so you don’t want to use harsh products. Avoid using abrasives or chemicals on them because they remove their sealants. I am dulling them and making them lose their shine.

Use a soft brush and gentle cleanser, and scrub thoroughly to clean your stone tiles properly. Ensure you go over with a clean napkin so the water doesn’t get absorbed.

While cleaning your kitchen splashback tiles, ensure you go over the grout. Using a baking soda paste, scrub the grout with a soft-bristled brush.
